2009 Junior Sailing Camps

Starting Wednesday, April 29 and running every Wednesday night throughout the summer, Fiddler's Cove Marina, in conjunction with Navy Yacht Club San Diego, invites novices through experts to participate in our
Wednesday Night Regattas.

Meet at the marina around 5 pm and join in
this fun and light-hearted racing series. Races end around sunset and are followed by a BBQ on the patio. For more information call

Ages 7-15 • As low as $75 per child per session Monday-Friday beginning in June

3 Sailing Camp Levels – Beginner through Advanced as well as an Aquatic Camp for the younger set. Open to military dependents and sponsored guests. Sailboats

Fiddler's Cove RV Park is open again for Dry Camping only!
Located on the beautiful Silver Strand, Fiddler’s Cove is open for Dry Camping offering scenic views of the bay, bridge and downtown skyline. Camp feet from the beach in your RV or tent. Reservations are recommended. General store, laundry, restroom facilities, bike paths, dump station, dog run, boat rental and wifi are available.

Located along the scenic Silver Strand Highway just south of NAB, Fiddler’s Cove offers kayak, canoe, sail and power boat rentals for a unique San Diego-style adventure. The marina is located off-base and is open to active duty, retirees, DoD civilians and civilian guests without ids when accompanied by an eligible sponsor.

Fiddler’s Cove has several different sizes and types of boats to rent including sailboats ranging from 8 feet to 27 feet, 15 foot power boats, kayaks and canoes. Also available are slips from 30 feet - 45 feet, showers, bathrooms, a laundry facility, chandlery store, holding tank dump station, and dry storage space for boats and boat trailers. We also rent 4 foot by 4 foot and 4 foot by 8 foot ‘lock and leave’ lockers.

Navy Yacht Club San Diego (NYCSD)
Housed at the Fiddler’s Cove Marina, the Navy Yacht Club offers both Single and Family memberships. Membership is open to all active duty and retired military personnel, their dependents and DoD employees.

 

Fiddler’s Cove Sailing Classes
Two-day adult sailing classes are offered on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3:30 pm most weekends. Sailing Classes are open to all eligible MWR Patrons and sponsored guests and class fees are per person (call for fees). Pre-registration is required as classes fill up quickly. Registration fee includes boat rental, instruction and textbooks. For more information call (619) 522-8680. Fiddler’s Cove also offers private lessons by appointment.

Basic Sailing Classes: Pre-registration required, 2-day classes.
Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am-3:30 pm each day. Fee Includes materials, instruction and boat rental.

Intermediate Sailing Classes: Pre-registration required, 2-day classes. Saturday and Sunday, 9 am-3:30 pm each day. Fee Includes materials, instruction and boat rental. Beginner class and four hours logged practice time required.
Brush up and reinforce beginning class instruction and concepts. Learn new concepts in mastering the techniques of safe tide and current navigation on larger keel boats. This class will also introduce advanced sail trim and boat handling skills. Students will receive hands-on training aboard more advanced vessels such as the Catalina 22. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a “Navy B” Skipper Intermediate qualification enabling them to sail beyond the local marina area.

Advanced Sailing Classes: Pre-registration required, 2-day classes. Saturday and Sunday, 9 am-3:30 pm each day. Fee includes materials, instruction and boat rental. Intermediate class and eight hours total logged practice time required.
Freshen up on previous classroom concepts and expand your knowledge of handling larger boats in an expanded sailing area. Students will receive hands-on training aboard the Catalina 250 (inboard motor) and the Catalina 27. Class includes topics such as inboard and outboard motor operation, basic local navigation and equipment associated with larger vessels. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a "Navy B” Skipper Advanced qualification enabling them to sail throughout the entire San Diego Bay.

MWR has year round aquatics programs including swim clinics, scuba classes, fitness swim clubs, a youth swim team, water aerobics, private swim lessons, lifeguard training courses, and water safety instructor courses. Conveniently located in Point Loma at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center, the U.S. Navy Sailing Center is one of the Navy’s premier marinas. The protected waters of San Diego Bay offer the perfect location to learn to sail or to sharpen advanced sailing techniques.

The Center also offers sailboat and kayak rentals. Weekend sailing classes are held from 9 am to 4:30 pm . For more information call the U.S. Navy Sailing Center at (619) 524-6498.

Special Events: sailing Classes year round in boats from 14 to 27 feet. Youth Sailing Programs over the summer, spring, and winter breaks.
