The MWR Program provides Naval personnel (including active duty and retired military, reservists, their family members and civilian employees) with a varied program of wholesome and constructive off-duty leisure activities that contribute to their quality of life. We offer a vast array of recreation opportunities including gymnasiums and fitness centers, swimming pools and beaches, libraries, movie theaters, car repair, bowling lanes, golf courses, ticket offices, marinas and outdoor rental centers, youth and young adult recreation centers, food and beverage facilities, child care centers and special events.

MWR can provide your organization with the opportunity to market your company’s name and/or products to an exclusive military population. Both event Sponsorship and direct advertising are available to gain exposure and potential market share for your organization. MWR will work with you to design a package to meet your organization’s marketing goals and objectives.

Point Loma Scramble Golf Tournament
Quarterly tournaments at Admiral Baker or Sea ‘N Air Golf Course. A 4-person shotgun start with scramble format. Prizes awarded for the longest drive, closest to the pin, lowest and highest net scores. Each tournament attracts over 100 participants.

Active Duty Open Play Bowling
Weekly free bowling for active duty Sailors at the Naval Base Coronado Sea ‘N Air Lanes on Mondays and at Naval Base San Diego Admiral Robinson Recreation Center on Tuesdays.
Attracts 300 participants per facility weekly.

Aerobathon Challenge
Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter
Quarterly each of the five fitness centers, serving over 84,000 participants monthly, hold a Fitness Challenge Aerobathon reflecting the season. Prizes are given to individuals, commands and group winners. Attracts 4,000 participants.

Armed Forces Competition Tournaments - Volleyball, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Softball and Racquetball Leagues
Each of the five fitness centers, serving over 84,000 participants, hold Annual and League Competition Tournaments to build morale and maintain peak physical fitness. Prizes are awarded to winners. Attracts 4,000 participants.

Splash ‘N Dash, June 22, 2007
Event is held aboard Naval Submarine Base Point Loma. A 500-yard swim from Smugglers Cove and a 5K run on the beach challenge the fitness of active duty military. Attracts 300 participants.

Longest Day of the Year Run, June 21, 2007
Celebration “Sun Run” aboard Naval Base Coronado. Open to all active duty, DoD civilians, retirees and their families in the San Diego Metro area. Attracts 300 participants.

POW/MIA 5K Memorial Run, September 7, 2007
This tribute to our POWs and MIAs each September includes a presentation by a former Prisoner of War, vendor displays and awards. Attracts 2,700 runners.

SUPERFROG XXVII Triathlon,
Run with the Navy Seals! September 22, 2007

Half-Ironman Triathlon tests skills and endurance with a 1.2-mile swim in the Pacific Ocean; a 56-mile bike ride; and a 13.2-mile run in the soft white sand. SUPERFROG is the San Diego Navy’s oldest continuous event for the past 27 years and is open to the public.
Attracts 350 tri-athletes and 800 spectators.

Sailors and Families Appreciation Week October 22, 2007
Held annually at the Naval Submarine Base Point Loma, the week finishes off with refreshments, games, activities and entertainment. Attracts 800 active duty military and their families.

PRT Command Challenge, September 21, 2007
A 45-team competition held aboard Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center Point Loma for active duty Sailors is a Physical Readiness Test and involves a 3-mile run, 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups. Attracts 600 participants.

Fearless Challenge, September 2007
Move over reality TV! Fearless Challenge dares active duty Sailors to compete in three of the most fearsome challenges. A Physical Challenge designed to weed out the weak, an Eating Challenge to eliminate the frail, and a Mental Challenge to determine who is the FEARLESS ONE.
Attracts 400 active duty.

Holiday Waterfront 5K Fun Run, December 6, 2007
Runners at Naval Station San Diego run along the waterfront to Pier 5, then back to Pier 2. Vendor booths are displayed and awards are presented. Attracts 1,000 participants.

Children’s Holiday Party, December 8, 2007
Aboard Naval Station San Diego, this annual event celebrates the holiday season with carolers, crafts, seasonal refreshments, train rides, horse and buggy rides and a visit with Santa Claus.
Attracts 2,000 children and family members.

Holiday on the Wharf, December 13, 2007
Held aboard Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center Point Loma, this event is a fun-filled day for 1,500 military families who enjoy artificial snow, refreshments, games and carolers.

Holiday Gifts for Sailors, December 21, 2007
Gifts to wish our Sailors happy holidays. Gift bags are given to Sailors who “stand the watch” on Christmas day. 2,500 participants.

“Welcome Home” Pizza Party and Night on the Town
MWR hosts pizza parties for the crew members standing duty on the first night in port in San Diego. For all of our single sailors (those with no family in San Diego), MWR arranges bus tours to San Diego points of interest. Attracts 6,500 sailors.
